Coronavirus update

National Vaccination Update
More than 33 million people in the UK have now received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. More than three-quarters of the over-75s have now been fully vaccinated against the virus and in total, more than 10 million people have now had both doses. In response to concerns regarding the threat from new variants of the virus, the Health Secretary has confirmed plans for a third booster jab this autumn.

Antivirals Taskforce
The Government is launching an Antivirals Taskforce designed to identify treatments for UK patients who have been exposed to COVID-19 to stop infection spreading and speed up recovery time, with treatments being taken at home after a positive test or exposure to COVID-19 to reduce transmission and speed up recovery.

In launching the scheme, expected to be operative by the autumn, the Prime Minister said:

“Our new Antivirals Taskforce will seek to develop innovative treatments you can take at home to stop COVID-19 in its tracks. These could provide another vital defence against any future increase in infections and save more lives.”

More details of the scheme can be found here.
