King Charles III Coronation Celebration Lunch – report and thanks

We are sure anyone who came to the fabulous Coronation Big Lunch will join the Council in thanking the Bury & West Burton Volunteers for all their hard work in making it such a fantastic event and a huge success. The volunteers have provided a summary of the day below, along with some photos…

In addition to the magnificent celebrations we witnessed over last weekend for the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, in Bury we held a very successful ‘Coronation Big Lunch’ as suggested by the King to bring as many people together as we could, for food and fun!

A team of Bury & West Burton Volunteers (BWBV) along with numerous additional helpers successfully planned, organised and executed our version of the ‘Coronation Big Lunch’ to celebrate the special day.

We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to our ticket sales, so much so, that we had to add more tables into the Bury Parish Council’s new marquee, as well as filling up all the tables in Bury Village Hall. Overall we sold 120 tickets! There were also lots of helpers without tickets and some people came to join in the party with their own picnic. It was also a pleasure to have Houghton friends join those of us from Bury and West Burton.

Following a glass of fizz to drink the toast to King Charles, and then the National Anthem, we all tucked into lunch of Coronation Chicken and salad (the veggie option was a tasty cheese quiche, thanks Ken!), closely followed by home-made meringues appropriately decorated with red, white and blue fruit and a union jack.

We were delighted to welcome the Bury Cubs and other young people who worked extremely hard in serving food and clearing tables.  We really appreciated all their help.

Finally, a great big thank you to all the BWBV volunteers and other friends, who worked so hard and of course also to all who came along and joined us.
