Bury Fete & Horticultural Show – 27th July 2024

Organised by the Bury Fete Committee in conjunction with and in aid of Arun Churches

Bury’s well-known fete was held on Saturday 27th to raise funds for the Arun Churches, St Johns, St Giles, St Botolph’s and St Nicholas. We were very fortunate that, as last year, it was a beautiful sunny day and attendance far surpassed our expectations. As always, the Petworth Band entertained us from the amphitheatre with their lovely repertoire of brass music and it was great to see so many children and adults thoroughly enjoying circus skills, games, raffle, tombola, face painting and more. Visitors were also able to browse the plants, books, cakes, clothes in the boutique and bric-a-brac – including some special collectible items and lovely fabrics – or just sit and enjoy the barbecue or tea and cakes whilst admiring the wonderful setting of Dorset House School. Thank you to the school for allowing us to hold it in their gardens and barn once again. So many helpers worked extremely hard to create a wonderful atmosphere and community spirit and bring the villagers together for a memorable day. Grateful thanks go to all the volunteers who worked on this and all those who joined the fun.

This year, we were also pleased to join forces with The Horticultural Society for their show, where some amazing entries for their competition categories were on display and judged to win prizes. Cups will be awarded to winners at the coffee morning on Saturday 3rd August.

A preliminary count by the fete team, indicates that the event raised over £10,000! Final figures will be available shortly after further payments and donations have been added.

This fantastic achievement is down to the hard work of so many people before, during and after the actual day and also to the generosity of those who donated prize money, plants, cakes, clothes, books, bric-a-brac items etc, and of course, their time to make it such a success.

Once again, thank you all!
