7th February 2022

Dear Parishioners and Business owners,

A Huge Thank You to those of you who are already supporting this important initiative. As most of you are aware, once we gather enough voucher pledges, the Government will give Openreach the money to install the infrastructure at no cost to the individuals who have pledged. Better still, 335 eligible properties across the Parish (including Bury, West Burton, Bury Common, Bury Gate and parts of Tripp Hill) will be future proofed with a Full Fibre Ultrafast connection whenever they want to use it, even if they didn’t pledge themselves.

But, we still need another dozen or so Homes or Businesses to sign up, otherwise none of us will benefit from this opportunity.

I thought you might like to know that Amberley switched on their Ultrafast Broadband just a few weeks ago, this is what one Amberley resident recently told me: ‘Although it is very early days, with residents just signing up to their upgraded Ultrafast Broadband packages, the expected increase in Broadband speeds appear to be being achieved.’

Comparing prices is not easy to do across a group of consumers as there are so many variables, however the Amberley residents are being offered a competitive range of broadband packages by a number of different providers. Openreach estimates that consumers commonly pay between £35-£45 per month. Each consumer must make their own choice of provider and broadband package, which will impact the price, as is the case now. A few local people have expressed concerns that the Ultrafast Broadband would be in addition to their current Broadband internet bill. I pointed out that the new Ultrafast service is like an upgrade which takes the place of their existing Broadband package and its associated cost.

I had the pleasure of speaking to a number of parishioners at the Coffee Morning in Bury on Saturday. I was joined by local boy Luke, who volunteered to explain to those present the many benefits of Ultrafast Broadband for adults and children. Luke likes to play e-commerce games which teach him how to run a business and requires fast internet speeds, so he is very excited at the prospect of Bury Parish getting UltraFast Broadband. Luke’s parents were also keen on the initiative and have pledged their support.

Only a week ago I spoke to a local Business owner who struggles to run his business with very slow internet speeds at that address. This gentleman told me that Ultrafast Broadband would save him time and money by making his business more efficient. This is one of 20 local businesses to support this opportunity by pledging their vouchers.

Having spoken to many parishioners, I have noted the two main reasons that motivate people to sign up to this initiate are:
1. Wanting a faster more reliable broadband internet service in their own home or business.
2. Wanting Bury Parish to get all the benefits of Ultrafast Broadband and not be left behind as a rural community.

With only 3 weeks remaining before the pledge window closes, you can make a difference to your whole community by signing up today!

Many thanks
Richard Champness
