Bury Fete raised over £10,000!

Report by Judith Daykin

On Saturday 26th July, the weather was kind and we had a lovely day for Bury Fete, to raise funds for Arun Churches (serving the parishes of Bury with Houghton, Coldwaltham and Hardham).

Attendance far surpassed our expectations and Petworth Town Band entertained us as usual from the amphitheatre. It was great to see so many children and adults thoroughly enjoying circus skills classes, raffle, tombola, face painting, and games including guessing the name of the very special Penguin, now known as ‘Waddle’!

Everyone was able to browse the books, cakes, clothes in the boutique, bric-a-brac, and plants along with the special collectable items and lovely fabrics, and enjoy a Pimm’s or beer with their barbecue or tea and cakes whilst admiring the wonderful setting of Dorset House School.

Thank you to the school for allowing us to hold the fete in their kitchen, gardens and barn once again.

It was also a great pleasure to be able to welcome our new Vicar Canon Martin Poll and his wife Diana, who kindly visited all the stalls to meet as many of us as possible.

A preliminary count by the Fete Team, indicates that the event raised over £10,000. This surpasses the 2024 total! Final figures will be available shortly after later payments and donations have been included.

None of this would be possible without all the hard work of so many people before, during and after the actual day. So many helpers worked extremely hard to create a wonderful atmosphere and community spirit, and bring the villagers together for a memorable day.

Thank you also to all those who generously donated prize money, cakes, clothes, books, bric-a-brac items etc etc, and of course, your time and energy to make it such a success.

Grateful thanks go to all the volunteers and all those who came along to enjoy the fun!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
