The front page of the October & November edition of The Link featured a photo of the Stopham Mount, a rare Anglo-Saxon artefact dating from AD 600-770, which, the editor explained, had been found in 2022 and is only the second such mount to be discovered in West Sussex. The Novium Museum in Chichester was hoping to raise the money to purchase it.
John Cross, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Place at Chichester District Council and District Councillor for Fittleworth Ward, announced the crowdfunding appeal to raise the necessary funding in late September. He has now confirmed that, in addition to a V&A Purchase Grant and a generous donation from the landowner, further donations from the community have enabled the Novium Museum to acquire this local treasure to keep within the Chichester District and display it for the local community and wider public to enjoy.
