In a year like no other, vicar Father Peter Mallinson expected that this year’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Bury churchyard would have to be cancelled. In the event, the occasion received a last-minute reprieve and a small ceremony was indeed staged at 11am on Sunday, 8th November, after all.
However, anticipating the worst, Father Peter had already recorded a short ceremony to honour servicemen and women from Bury, West Burton, Hardham, Coldwaltham and Houghton.
This virtual service was filmed at Bury war memorial on Tuesday 3rd November, before the new lockdown restrictions went into place. Our thanks to the parishioners who took part – in both events.
For those many parishioners who, in these extraordinary circumstances, were unable to attend Sunday’s ceremony, here is the video Father Peter recorded earlier. Even when some of us cannot join together to commemorate the fallen, we will remember them…
