Flooding risk – Environment Agency

The Environment Agency issued a flood warning on Monday 16th for the Lower Arun following 40mm of rain at the weekend. Flooding would possibly affect the A29 at Pulborough and water would be extensive in fields and could affect gardens and approach properties on Lower Street and Swan Corner, near to Swan Bridge, Pulborough and Bridge Cottages, Greatham. Water was expected to be near the tops of the banks around Houghton Bridge, Amberley, but no impacts were expected in Arundel or Ford. The rivers upstream at Pallingham and Fittleworth were starting to peak on Monday, but with little further rain forecast until Friday, river levels should fall but will take a week to fall to more normal levels. None of this is likely to come as a surprise to residents of our parish but we obviously need to be mindful of the flooding risk. The Environment Agency produce very useful information in the form of a quick reference flood alert guide which can be accessed here.

If you feel that your property may be vulnerable to flooding you may wish to sign up to the EA’s flood warning service which can warn you by phone, email or text message if your home or business is at risk of flooding. The service is free and can be found here.
