When the requirement for wearing face coverings in certain settings was first introduced, people refusing to wear one risked incurring a £100 fine, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days. Under new enforcement measures introduced, the penalty for not wearing a face covering will be repeatedly doubled for subsequent offences up to a maximum of £3,200.
