Bury Parish Council is considering its response to the South Downs National Park Draft Local Plan. That plan identifies sites that its planners regard as having potential for development. There are two sites that BPC wishes to review. One site, designated as having that potential – CH003 – is on agricultural land at the back of Coombe Crescent. On the face of it, it goes against a number of Neighbourhood Plan policies. The other site – CH192 – is the soon to be redundant Bury Manor Farm. Though, as a brownfield site, it would seem to have more potential, it was not properly considered as it was incorrectly thought to be outside the settlement boundary. BPC will be looking at both these sites and, given the likelihood of some development in the relatively near future, it will assess them both from the point of view of what is best for the village,
There are plenty of opportunities to engage in the SDNPA Local Plan Review before the consultation period closes on 17th March 2025 including drop-in sessions at which officers from the SDNPA planning policy team will be available to answer questions. An additional session has been organised for 24th February 4-6.30pm at the South Downs Centre in Midhurst. Details of all the sessions can be accessed here.

The evidence base contains ‘sites’ that have been through the SDNP Land Availability Assessment process (LAA), with one such site listed as ‘having potential’ in Bury: The field east of Coombe Crescent – it can be viewed in appendix B here >>
On the same page you can view quite a number of sites that were considered by SDNPA in Bury, appearing in appendix C and D, which were either excluded or rejected.
